Maurice Jones is the President and CEO of LISC also known as the Local Initiatives Support Corporation. His organization has recently donated over $100 million to Black-owned businesses and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
Jones, who is 55-years old, previously served as the Deputy Undersecretary of HUD and the Secretary of Commerce in Virginia before being appointed as the CEO and president of LISC in September 2016.
Since then, he has shown expertise in managing the organization and remarkable commitment to helping the community. He heads the LISC, which aims to support projects to revitalize the underserved communities and provide economic opportunities for the people in 35 cities and over 2,100 rural counties in 44 states.
In 2018, the LISC reported $1.5 billion in grants, loans, and investments, leveraging $4.4 billion in total development and supporting over 700 partners across America.
During the current crisis, the LISC received $60 million from Lowe's, $40 million from Jeff Bezos' ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, and $25 million from Netflix. Jones said the more than $100 million funds are set to be used to help provide immediate relief to keep small businesses, as well as HBCUs, running.
