Black Woman Founder of a Transportation Company Exclusively For Children Celebrates 7 Years in Business

Loletta Eiland, the African American founder and CEO of Bubbles Transportation Company LLC based in Detroit, Michigan, is celebrating seven years of providing safe and reliable transportation for children and families in her local community. Inspired by her own struggles as a working mother, Eiland launched the company to help parents ensure their children can get to school safely and on time, even when demanding work schedules make it difficult to transport them personally.

Before becoming an entrepreneur, Eiland worked for Fiat Chrysler, where her A-shift required her to report to work as early as 5 a.m. She and her then-husband depended on family members and friends, often paying them, to take their children to school. However, there were times when their children arrived late or missed school altogether. The experience prompted Eiland to research how many other Detroit families were facing similar challenges. She discovered that chronic absenteeism was a significant issue in the city and that transportation was among the barriers preventing some students from consistently attending school. Because many Detroit students attend schools outside their immediate neighborhoods, dependable transportation can be especially important for families.

In 2019, following a serious medical emergency, Eiland says she felt compelled to stop waiting for the “right time” and turn her idea into a business. After recovering, she left her full-time job and benefits behind and officially soft-launched Bubbles Transportation Company in October 2019. Just five months later, the pandemic forced schools and businesses to shut down, bringing the young transportation company to a standstill. Eiland remained committed to the idea, however, and relaunched the service in the fall of 2021, initially introducing it to families at her children's school. She started with just one client and gradually grew the company through new customers year after year.

Today, her company has grown to a team of four drivers and operates two vehicles, providing transportation for children to and from school throughout Detroit. The company has also expanded its delivery services to include auto parts, medical and dental supplies, and pharmaceuticals. For Eiland, however, helping children consistently make it to the classroom remains at the heart of the company's mission.

“Our mission is to provide safe, timely and dependable transportation services for kids to and from school in the City of Detroit,” Eiland says. “We want to help reduce chronic absenteeism and close the achievement gap by providing transportation. We understand that the life of a parent can be chaotic, and work schedules necessary to provide for a family may prevent parents from getting their children to school on time. We are here to help.”

As the company celebrates its seventh year in 2026, Eiland hopes to continue expanding its reach and helping more working families overcome one of the most basic obstacles to consistent school attendance: simply getting their children there. What began as one mother's solution to a problem she experienced firsthand has evolved into a growing Detroit-based company focused on making life easier for parents while helping children arrive at school safely, reliably and on time.
