AJA Investments, led by Norland and Dr. Amina James, Acquania Escarne, and Richard and Janelle Howard, has acquired a 120-room full-service hotel in Lake Charles, Louisiana in a historic deal. This marks the second hotel acquisition for Norland and Dr. Amina James who are also the owners of the Quality Inn Memphis Northeast.
The project is backed by a group of majority Black investors and is being managed by a Black-owned management company — Synergy Hospitality Group. AJA Investments raised an impressive $2.8M to seal the deal on the 82,000 sq. foot Louisiana property. Renovations are currently underway to convert the hotel to an upscale Wyndham destination complete with a restaurant, bar, and meeting space.Lake Charles is a quaint city in southwest Louisiana touted as “Louisiana’s playground.” Nestled along the shores of Lake Charles and the Calcasieu River, this area is a blend of Cajun, Creole, and Native American influences. Lake Charles is just over two hours drive from Houston and three hours from New Orleans and is also accessible by major airlines. The picturesque bayou locale is also the backdrop for 70 annual festivals which bring thousands of visitors to the city throughout the year.
Dr. Amina's husband, Norland, is excited about what the future holds for the couple's newest Wyndham location. He comments “Lake Charles is such a great place to visit with family and friends. There’s so much to do from the casinos to sports and festivals. It’s ideal for a long weekend or quiet getaway.”
