Each year, Black Enterprise publishes a list of the top 100 nation's largest black businesses. In 2014, 15 of the businesses on the list were from Atlanta. This represents an increase of one additional black business from last year's list.
About the list
Black Enterprise is a well-respected, monthly magazine that is considered the "premier business news and investment resource for African Americans" and has a readership of 3.7 million.
Each year, the magazine ranks businesses in four categories, including industrial/services, auto dealerships, advertising and financial services. This list can include construction and manufacturing companies, media companies, IT services and many others. Companies are ranked by revenue.
Who made the list
The 15 companies from Atlanta that made the top 100 list include engineering design firms, electric supply companies, hospitality firms, marketing companies and banks. The largest financial company on the list was Atlanta's Citizens Trust Bank, who reported $387 million in assets. To compare, the company who made the number one spot on the entire list was Wade Ford Inc., an auto dealer located in Smyrna, Georgia, who had total revenues of $426 million.
