Claudia Charles, the Founder and CEO of Neighborhood Cornerstone Partners, is leading the first Black-owned HOA management company in the United States; a milestone that is already drawing attention across the Carolinas and beyond. Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, her company is not just another management firm.
She aims to correct the very patterns that have historically harmed homeowners, especially Black families who faced barriers in neighborhoods where HOAs once enforced exclusionary rules. By prioritizing transparency, accountability, and education, she has created a model that doesn’t just manage boards but equips them to lead with fairness.
In the world of Homeowners’ Associations, most people expect rigid rules, rising dues, and little compassion. For decades, the HOA management industry has carried a reputation for being cold, unresponsive, and, for Black homeowners, at times discriminatory. Families have lost homes to liens and foreclosures that could have been avoided, and many still feel the weight of an industry that has often valued profit over people.
The story of Claudia, however, is one of frustration turned into fuel. While serving as a volunteer on her own HOA board, she saw how poor management drained reserves, raised dues unnecessarily, and left homeowners without answers. Instead of walking away, she stepped forward. That moment sparked a vision: if she could protect her own community, why not others?
“HOAs hold tremendous power,” she comments. “And that power can either protect or destroy. I built NCP to make sure it protects.”
Unlike traditional firms, Neighborhood Cornerstone Partners partners only with boards that care about their community. The company provides training, hands-on guidance, and a people-first approach that keeps dues stable and shields families from unnecessary penalties. It’s a vision that has already reshaped communities in North and South Carolina and is beginning to gain national attention.
But the story of Claudia goes beyond management. With a background in healthcare, she brings compassion to leadership. She has mentored Black-owned businesses, coached girls through sports programs, and helped Black women build wealth through real estate investment. These experiences fuel her mission: to make HOAs a source of stability rather than stress.
Today, journalists, boards, and homeowners are asking the same question: could this be the model that finally transforms the HOA industry? With Claudia at the helm, Neighborhood Cornerstone Partners is proving that it’s possible. The press is beginning to take notice, and the bigger story may be just getting started.
