Jonnetta Patton, the mother and former manager of R&B legend Usher, is now making waves in the food industry with her new food truck, J's SmokeHouse. The truck had its grand opening in metro Atlanta in early August.
"I enjoyed 17 years of creating one of the biggest artists in the world," Patton told WSB-TV. "I'm doing the same thing with my [cooking] incubator and now J's Smokehouse."J's SmokeHouse isn't just about traditional barbecue. Patton has reimagined the menu to offer a more inclusive selection. She said, "What makes the menu different are our options, are vegan options. We have a pulled pork sandwich, and we have a vegan hot dog in the smokehouse. And they are amazing."
Patton's shift to the food industry isn't entirely new. In 2016, she launched J's Kitchen Culinary Incubator in DeKalb, which aimed to foster culinary talent by giving them the resources they need to succeed. In 2019, she partnered with HUNGRY, a platform connecting chefs with businesses and catering events, expanding her influence in the culinary world.
Earlier this year, she was also honored by Sysco Foods at the Women En Blanc Honors Brunch during the Essence Festival, celebrating her significant contributions to the food industry.
To celebrate the launch of J's Smokehouse, Usher made a special appearance at the grand opening, showing his support and pride for his mom's new business.
