Single Black Mom of 2 Buys Her Kids a Vending Machine to Teach Them About Business

Ciearra Baker, a mompreneur from St. Louis, Missouri

When Ciearra Baker, a mompreneur from St. Louis, Missouri, decided to buy a vending machine as a gift for her two young kids to start teaching them about entrepreneurship, she had no idea that it would be controversial. When she posted about it on social media, her post drew mixed reactions from her followers. Some of them criticizing her decision while others praised her for her unique and practical gift idea.

"Let's not handicap these kids making their lives easy.. I'm not buying toys my kids most definitely will understand life is not easy and making the right choices with money & etc... So I came up with the idea to invest in vending machine for the kids as Christmas gift. #Young bosses in the making," Baker wrote on her Facebook post.

However, a few people strongly disagreed with Baker's choice of gift for her own children. Some even said they were too young to be able to manage the vending machine properly.

"Coulda picked any day out of the 365 to do this but you pick Christmas where every kid should be enjoying gifts and stuff," one person said. "My mans ain't want to sell no buttafingers out a vending machine he wanted a PS5."

On the other hand, many other people were praising her, even saying they were inspired to purchase a vending machine for their kids as well.

"I want something like this for my kids I have sooo... many ideas with no idea of resources that are reasonable. How do you go about getting one," one person asked.

"Great idea! Don't sweat comments of those who don't agree. When/how you choose to introduce your kids to entrepreneurship is your choice and your responsibility as a parent," another commented.
