Daytona Beach, Florida is well known for the Daytona International Speedway where the Daytona 500 NASCAR race is held every year. Students and others who love music might also know it for the college-run record label that was started there recently at Bethune-Cookman University. The label, which is called HBCU Records, is run entirely by students.
HBCU Records was started by Mike Curb Music Business, Entertainment & Sports Institute (Curb Institute) on the Bethune-Cookman University campus. Curb is not only a record company owner but a NASCAR owner and a politician. The company's leadership team consists of all students who are majoring in communications, business, and recording technology.
Talent and experience
The students also have experience and talent that makes them ideal candidates to run the record label. DJ DGlove (Daniel Glover), for example, came from a family of DJs and has already built a name in Florida. Paul Jackson, a native of Jacksonville, Florida, loves to write songs "about faith, hope and the will to overcome any adversity.” He has already recorded his first single for HBCU Records, “Champion."
Other students on the HBCU Records team include Caroline Morley (mass communications major); Ania Ashley (recording technology major); Kevin Deligny (business major), and Senior Alyx Richards, a mass communications major, who provides PR support.
