Juice Bar/ Vegan Restaurant Owner Making Healthy Profits Serving "Green Latifah" and "Swizz Beets"

Jerri Evans, owner of Turning Natural Juice Bar and Cafe

Jerri Evans, an entrepreneur that owns Turning Natural Juice Bar and Cafe in the Washington DC area, is having huge success and is planning to open more locations. As the name of her establishment suggests, they serve fresh juices and vegan-based foods, and she's pulling it off in urban areas where mostly African Americans live!
Her current locations are in the Forestville/ District Heights and in Northeast, Washington, DC - areas where deep-fried carryouts and fast food joints are typically more popular than health-conscious restaurants. Many have doubted that a juice bar could be successful in these areas, but she's proving them wrong!

So how is she pulling it off?

Well, first of all, creativity has been key! They started giving their juice and smoothie products fun names like the "Green [Queen] Latifah", the "Swizz Beets [Beatz]", the "Just Blaze", the "Marion Berry [Barry]", and many others. They also sell 3-day, 5-day, and 7-day cleanses.

In addition, the vegan cafe serves delicious Jamaican beef patties — made of veggies or spinach, as well as vegan cupcakes and cookies. So far, each item has been very popular among customers.

Orders for most of their products can also be placed online.

What was the motivation?

Well, the truth is that Jerri's late mother, Annette Turner, founded and birthed the idea of providing a holistic lifestyle to everyday living after being diagnosed with Stage II Breast Cancer in 2001. She educated and facilitated her path to healthier living, while serving as an agent for change. Sadly, though, in 2010, cancer reared its ugly head again, and after 9 years of being cancer-free she fought her final fight.

But her two children, Jerri Evans and Terry Turner, decided to not allow her dream to die, but rather evolve by continuing her initiative. Today, they are moving forward and spreading good health always, in all ways!
