Houston Black Business Leaders Launch the Black Dollar Project

Black Dollar Project

The spending power of African Americans in the U.S. is strong. According to a recent Nielsen report, the purchasing power of African American consumers is expected to reach $1.3 trillion by 2017. One organization in Houston, Texas has created an innovative plan to bring together this strong consumer group with African American businesses in the greater Houston area. The result is the birth of The Black Dollar Project.

What is The Black Dollar Project?

The Black Dollar Project is a business initiative designed by Houston Black business leaders to bridge the gap between Black consumers and Black business owners. The program connects the two groups, and in so doing, increases financial security and growth within African American communities.

How the program works

The Black Dollar Project will help Black businesses gain more exposure to Black consumers through targeted advertising opportunities, seminars, and increased brand awareness that will give them more exposure to Black consumers. The Black Dollar Project has a directory where Black business owners can list their business for just $1 a week. The directory includes a wide range of businesses, such as legal, automotive, entertainment, marketing, landscape service, flooring, travel, catering and much more. Black consumers can search the directory for locations of businesses owned by Blacks that offer the products or services they are looking for.

In addition to providing venues for Black businesses and consumers to connect, Black business owners will also be encouraged to do more business with other Black business owners. The overall goals of the program is to build financial security and positive growth by creating economic empowerment between African American business owners and Black consumers.
