Meet the Entrepreneur Who is 300 Pounds... and Running!

Martinus Evans, founder of 300 Pounds and Running

Martinus Evans is a straight no-chaser type of guy who is on a journey for better health and better self. As the creator of a popular blog called 300 Pounds and Running, he is very passionate about helping people be the best that they can be.
He comments, "I do not like to think of 300 Pound and Running as a weight loss blog, running blog or health lifestyle blog, but rather a self-improvement blog because a weight loss journey has more to do about overcoming psychological barriers and dealing with traumas than it does about losing a few pounds."

Some of the topics that he covers on the blog include weight loss, running, CrossFit, getting healthy, recipes, meal plans, positive thinking, over coming barriers, self-love, forgiveness, chasing values, crushing goals, and what he calls "the occasional rambling and rant".

How he got started

In 2012, Martinus weighed about 360 pounds. One day he walked into work and felt a sharp pain in his hip that brought tears to his eyes). He went to his primary care doctor, and received a recommendation to go to physical therapy. After 20 or so weeks of therapy, however, the pain was still there.

So, he went to an orthopedic specialist and he said to him, “I know why you’re in pain... It's because you’re fat and you need to start walking and losing weight.” Feeling angry and embarrassed that the doctor called him “fat”, he responded, “Screw walking, I’ll run a marathon.”

He then left the doctor’s office, bought some running shoes, and decided to create the blog. The name 300 Pounds and Running was inspired by a NWA song, titled 100 Miles and Running. The initial goal of this blog was to document his journey to eating right, losing weight, and running a marathon. Since starting the blog, he has lost over 80 pounds and ran his first marathon in his hometown of Detroit, MI.

More than just a blog

Martinus says the theme of the blog is based on value, consistency, courage, determination, dedication, positivity and perseverance.

"We understand that if we want to be better than who we are now, we must do the work," he comments. "We don’t do diets! Diets are temporary, they do not breed long-term success. We respect the process! It did not take us a month to gain this weight and it most certainly will not take a month to lose it."

The blog is very powerful resource of helpful information, but via the blog, Martinus also give away a free e-book called Zero to Running and runs a podcast. In addition, he has an online store that features a line of motivational t-shirts, tank tops, long sleeve shirts, hoodies, hats, and more.
